2 April 2022::UK Energy From Wind Power Down To 3% Of National Need In Past Week
It was a pleasant week in ?Britain last week, the weather settled into a psttern of cold, dry, sunny, almost windless days typical of what we ofen get from December through to April. It was certainly too cold to be outdoors without a coat or thick sweater for long. More significantly ss a result of the lack of wind, electricity generation from wind turbines was negligible, averaging 1.01Gigawatts, or 3% of total demand: Effectively this means that wind farms only run at about 5% of their capacity in such wintery weather.

Ironically Prime Minister Boris Johnson, while bleathering and blustering about fighting Putin's effective embargo on natural gas exports pleadeged to make Britain even more dependent than it is now on wind power. Somewhat idiotically he claimed this was necessary to ensure the country could never again be held to ransome by tyrants who controlled essential natural resources. What Boris, his predecesors in office for the past 25 years and all their scientific and environmental advisers fail to understand is that our foolish committment to wind and oither 'renewable' energy sources is precicely what has made us dependent on nations like Russian and Saudi Arabia for reliable energy sources.

According to published statistics for last week, gas provided 53.7% of our electricity, with another 3.5% from coal. Nuclear, although nominally only about 15% of national capacity provided over 30% of energy needed while negligable contributions from wind solar and hydro made up the rest. This is only one week remember, but in a cold week just outside winter it is frightening to think that at a time when domestic heating needs are at their greatest, thanks to the unreliability of wind power there was absolutely no spare capacity in the national grid.

The situation has been similar in Germany, even more reliant- on wind than The UK, with wind power nearly drying up for four days, and over the week averaging only 9% of total generation. Their grid was only kept going with coal and gas, 41% and 12% respectively.

Germany does have more solar capacity than Britain, this contributed 16% of the total, but in early spring solar is only really useful for about three hours a day, around noon, rather than early morning or evening when demand peaks. It is also worth pointing out that in the middle of winter solar power only supplied 2% of total generation. As with the UK, electricity only accounts for a small proportion of total energy consumption, about a sixth.

In terms of primary energy consumption, wind only makes up 8%, with solar another 4%. It is abundantly clear that we cannot rely on importing power from Europe as most European nations are in a worse situation. In our Net Zero future, they will be in as much trouble as we.

anyone who has watched a TV news bulletin or read a newspaper in the past week ought to be aware that our ability to import gas and oil is reduced as a result of Russia's retaliatory measures to US / NATO / EU economic sanctions imposed in a futile attempt to end the conflict in Ukraine. We are also exporting gas to Europe as well which is highly unusual though there is plenty still to be pumped from our North Sea rigs, now that high prices make it economical to run them. What has become evident is that the last few coal plants in Britain MUST be retained for the foreseeable future. The remaing handful, either mothballed or kept on standby, were due to be closed very soon and will probably require considerabe refurbishment if they are to return to ful operational capacity.

It seems nothing less that total system collapse will make people to wake up and challenge the idiotic bullies of the green lobby or give politicians a sufficiently good kicking to make them understand the needs of the people outweigh virtue signalling and woke fuckwittery in their list of priorities. Not enough of us understand what is really happening what is really happening is areas as important as energy supply. BoJos Energy Security paper is being pushed back on a weekly basis but still mainstream media foicuses on green propaganda and deflects attention from the more serious news.

The mess is the result of over 20 years of EU and UK energy policy by being formulated by bureaucrats and politicians who have been deliberately destroying our electricity systems and influenced by a noisy but numerically insignificant minority who would rather the world returned to medieval poverty that burn one gallon of oil or bucket of coal. The bureucrats have links to corporate entities that have financial interests in wind and sloar power. On the part of the politicians and their financial advisers it is a case of 20 years collective stupidity and ignorance that have led them to believe 'science' can make the wind blow and the sun shine twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Take your pick. It is truly amazing that power experts have been totally ignored for over 20 years – and they are still being ignored by the government as the impending disaster gets nearer by the day.

Households also face price hikes and energy shortages, as the rising tensions between the West and Russia threaten gas supplies to the UK. Petrol has risen above 130p a litre for the first time since January – and experts predict it will increase by another 2p in coming weeks. They blame nervous traders who have bought up crude oil stocks, pushing up the price per barrel and the cost of filling up the family car.

Petrol prices dropped to a three-year low of 129.82p a litre in January. By yesterday they had risen to an average of 130.17p. Diesel remained relatively low at 136.39p.

Russia and Iran strike $10bn energy deal
Iran and Russia are negotiating a power deal worth up to $10 billion. The construction of new thermal and hydroelectric plants and a transmission network are in the works. Iran’s Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian met his Russian counterpart Alexander Novak in Tehran to discuss the power deals, according to the Mehr news agency. They include the possibility of Russia exporting 500 megawatts of electricity to Iran. Moscow is discussing with Tehran the trade of 500,000 barrels a day of Iranian oil for Russian goods. The deal could be worth as much as $20 billion, and has rattled Washington because it could bring Iran's crude exports above a one million barrels a day which is the threshold agreed upon in the nuclear deal.
